Madison, WI, USA. — A commercial flight heading to Minnesota was forced to change course Friday evening after a passenger became highly disruptive, prompting crew and law enforcement to intervene.
United Airlines Flight 2005, which originally departed from Chicago en route to Minneapolis, was rerouted to Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin. According to airline representatives, the unexpected stop was necessary to address an immediate security concern involving the traveler's behavior.
The situation was brought under control mid-air when law enforcement officers who happened to be traveling on the flight quickly stepped in to restrain the individual.
Upon touchdown in Madison, deputies from the Dane County Sheriff's Department boarded the aircraft to officially remove the passenger from the plane. Local airport officials confirmed that the ongoing investigation into the incident has since been handed over to federal authorities.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, was carrying 147 passengers and a crew of six at the time of the disruption. Representatives for the airline confirmed that no injuries occurred during the event.
After the disruptive individual was removed, the remaining passengers resumed their trip, with the flight safely reaching its final destination in Minneapolis early Saturday morning.
